Volunteers Revitalize San Marcos.
The City of San Marcos held its seventh
annual Volunteer Improvement Beautification Event (VIBE) on Saturday,
October 17th.
The VIBE program revitalized a series of homes in a local San Marcos
neighborhood.
The City collaborated with United
We Paint to implement the event.
United We Paint Executive Director Jeff Zotara stated, "Volunteerism is at
an all-time high now and we have set an all-time San Marcos record for
volunteerism. United We Paint has witnessed unprecedented volunteer sponsor
support.
DJO Global
and
UPS adopted
entire home sites along with many local business providing the necessary
funding to pull off an event of this size.
Home Depot &
Behr Paint assisted with paint and supplies and
Mr. Taco
provided a plentiful catered lunch for all our volunteers.
San Diego Gas & Electric
and Vallecitos
Water District provided energy and water conservation evaluations
as volunteers helped to promote going green."
City Council members were present to assist with the home makeovers and kick
off the event with Starbucks and Chick-fil-a providing breakfast.
California State University San Marcos students provided hundreds of hours
of support through their fraternities and sororities.
Karl Schwarm, Director of Housing & Neighborhood Services explained, "Our
San Marcos VIBE program is an extension of our vision of a bigger and better
future for San Marcos. The City of San Marcos continues to be actively
involved in our community and make a difference in the lives of our
residents. Hands on experiences such as the VIBE combine our heartfelt
commitment together with our labor to make a transformational change in the
lives of children, seniors, and families in San Marcos. I was excited to
join our residents in picking up brushes and rolling up our sleeves to give
back to our community."
Volunteers painted and landscaped 12 sites during the one-day VIBE event
along with other home maintenance projects. The City provides all
volunteers with breakfast snacks, beverages, lunch, music, official
volunteer t-shirt, volunteer certificates and pictures of the event.
Jeff Zotara continued, "The VIBE program continues to be an excellent
opportunity for San Marcos and North County San Diego companies to give back
to their local communities. We had the most diverse group of sponsors
including
Testa & Associates, LLP,
Ranch del Oro Towing,
VW Paradise,
El Dorado Stone,
and
Kent Landsberg Company.
This project is not possible without contributions from companies such as
EDCO,
Diamond Environmental,
and
Allies Party Rental
that help make the VIBE the premier volunteer experience. We are truly
fortunate to have such caring corporate citizens, especially in this tough
economic times."
